Babies & children

I see newborns, infants and children at the practice in the Marais. Trained in paediatric and perinatal osteopathy (CES, 2016), then in sucking disorders and oral ties, I care for your child alongside the follow-up by your paediatrician or doctor.

Why parents come

How can osteopathy help babies?

Birth is an intense moment for a baby’s body. It can leave tension in the neck, jaw, skull or back that gets in the way of feeding, turning the head or digestive comfort. With very gentle techniques, osteopathy aims to:

  • make sucking easier, by freeing the mouth, jaw and neck;
  • help the baby move freely, especially turning the head to both sides;
  • encourage relaxation, when the baby is tense, arches or cries a lot;
  • support parents, with practical techniques for everyday life.

At what age can a baby see an osteopath?

There is no minimum age: I see babies from the first days of life, and children of all ages. The right time depends mostly on what you notice:

  • in the first weeks, when feeds are difficult or painful, your baby always turns their head the same way or seems tense;
  • in the first months, if the back or one side of their head is flattening, or if they arch, cry a lot or struggle to settle;
  • later on, after a fall, or for discomfort related to posture.

For a feeding difficulty, it is best not to wait: the first weeks matter for establishing breastfeeding. In every case, follow-up by the paediatrician or doctor remains the foundation, and osteopathy adds to it.

What happens in a session for a baby?

I take time to listen: the pregnancy, the birth, the first weeks, what worries you. I then observe your baby: posture, spontaneous movements, how they turn their head, feed or settle.

The techniques are gentle and suited to their age. Your baby stays with you, and we can pause for a feed or a cuddle. At the end, I explain what I noticed and what you can do day to day.

If something looks like it needs medical advice, I refer you to your paediatrician or doctor.

And older children?

I also see children, for example after a fall, for discomfort related to posture, or alongside orthodontic treatment, always in addition to their medical follow-up.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a referral to bring my baby?

No, you can see an osteopath without a prescription or referral. Please bring your child's health record book (carnet de santé) if you have one.

Does osteopathy replace the paediatrician?

No. Your child's medical follow-up stays with the paediatrician or family doctor. Osteopathy works alongside it, for functional problems, once a medical cause has been ruled out.

Do I stay during the session?

Yes. A parent stays with the child throughout the session.

How much does a session for a baby cost?

The fee is the same as for an adult. The mother + baby under one year option covers two consultations in a row. Fees are listed under « Practical information » at the bottom of the page.
