Pregnancy

During pregnancy, your body changes quickly: your back, pelvis and breathing adapt to the growing baby. Trained in paediatric and perinatal osteopathy (CES, 2016), I care for you in every trimester and after the birth, alongside your midwife or obstetrician.

Why women come

How can osteopathy help during pregnancy?

Your body adapts to the growing baby: the pelvis opens, the back arches, the diaphragm rises. These changes can create tension and pain. With gentle techniques and suitable positions, osteopathy aims to:

  • relieve the lower back, pelvis, pubic area and ribs;
  • preserve pelvic mobility, useful throughout pregnancy;
  • ease breathing and sleep when the bump takes up room;
  • support you after the birth, you and your baby.

Why see an osteopath during pregnancy?

Month after month, your bump grows, your centre of gravity shifts and your pelvis prepares for the birth. These changes can bring discomfort: low back pain, pelvic or pubic pain, sciatica, rib pain, poor sleep, heavy legs.

This discomfort is common and usually harmless. Osteopathy can support you alongside your pregnancy care, to help you feel better in a body that is changing.

What happens in a session?

We go over your pregnancy, your follow-up and what is bothering you. I check there are no signs that should go to your midwife or maternity unit first.

The session takes place in a comfortable position for you: on your side, sitting or half-sitting, with cushions. Techniques are gentle and adapted to the stage of pregnancy. We finish with simple tips for everyday life: moving, sleeping, carrying.

And after the birth?

The postpartum period also brings big changes. I see mothers after the birth, on their own or with their baby: the mother + baby under one year option covers two consultations in a row.

Frequently asked questions

Can I see an osteopath throughout my pregnancy?

Yes, in every trimester, alongside the follow-up by your midwife or obstetrician. Techniques and positions are adapted to the stage of pregnancy and to your comfort.

Should I tell my midwife or obstetrician?

It is best to: let them know you are seeing an osteopath, and tell me about anything specific in your pregnancy care.

How does a session work with a big bump?

I adapt: you can lie on your side, sit or half-sit, with cushions. You can ask for a break at any time.

Is it reimbursed?

Most top-up insurers (mutuelles) and many international insurers cover part of the cost of osteopathy: check with yours. The French national health insurance (Sécurité sociale) does not reimburse it.
